Part 2- Mythological Allusions: Agamemnon

Agamemnon    Mythological Allusion   Source: Edith Hamilton's Mythology

  • King of Argos
  • Married Helen of Troy
  • Paris stole Helen of Troy during the Trojan War
  • Agamemnon wanted revenge against the Trojans
  • Never got Helen back at the end of the war, but gained another bride
Commentary: The main concept of this story is that you can't forced to be in love with someone you are not in love with. Paris and Helen were in love, but Helen was forced to love Agamemnon because she married him. This plot line reminds me a lot of the plot line in Titanic. Rose, one of the main characters, is forced to go through with an arranged marriage because all of her family's money is gone. As the story progresses though, she begins to fall in love with Jack, a third class passenger with no money, and needs to choose between love or money.
